The Dangers in My Heart (Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu) is a rom-com anime series, which released on 1 April 2023, based on the manga of same name by Norio Sakurai. It began serializing in Weekly Shonen Champion in March 2018. Kyoutaro Ichikawa is your average middle school student... who dreams of murdering his own crush. No, this feeling isn't due to some grudge or such but, the thing is, murder and his crush, Anna Yamada (too many Yamadas this season), are the only two things that goes in his mind. The two starts meeting frequently in the school library, where Ichikawa goes for reading books (about murders) and Yamada to gorge on her snacks. This is it for the synopsis of the anime, so let's begin the review on its first episode.

Episode Summary
The episode starts with our MC reading a book (about murders). He then expresses his urge to kill someone, Anna Yamada in particular. He even calls himself "messed up" in the mind many times.
In the lunchtime, Ichikawa prefers to go to the school library, as it was quite. But, today he notices someone already present there and eating, this girl was Anna Yamada.
She was eating rice balls. When she sees Ichikawa, she says something, though Ichikawa couldn't hear it probably, however, he simply agrees and walks away from there. From the gaps between books, Ichikawa is observing her as she starts eating chips after finishing rice balls. In between the lunch, she starts making her Social Studies poster, when she realizes that she is missing her box cutter. Ichikawa, who was watching all of this from across the shelves, offers her his box cutter.
Next day, Ichikawa finds his box cutter on his desk. He overhears Yamada and her friends, and finds out that the poster which Yamada was making the other day had been re-done by her friend. This made her really sad.
When they were presenting their projects, Ichikawa notices Yamada is still upset, and is about to cry. There was a helicopter and everyone starts looking her way. Now, he does something heroic here. He pulls out his cutter and cuts his own poster to divert everyone's attention away from her.
Later that day, he overhears a group of boys and finds out that a boy, Kenta Kanzaki, has crush on a girl of his class, Hara. That very day, when he was in the library, Hara enters as well because Kenta asked to see her there.
When Kenta arrived, Ichikawa was still seeing through the book shelves and he accidentally drops a book. To make it seem like a cat did it, he meows. However, as he was a human, it was a bad one. Yamada says she'll go check, only to meow again, realistically.
Later that day, Ichikawa went to a magazine store to buy some books (about murders) and encounters Yamada there. She is trying to disguise herself and is standing near her magazine. She is trying to get noticed, however she fails. Seeing this, Ichikawa buys her magazine.
The next day, on their way to school, Ichikawa notices Yamada getting hit on by some random dude. He starts following them, in order to know what is happening. The dude is asking for her contact info but Yamada is resisting it. At last, he grabs her wrist and forcefully orders her to give him her LINE account. Ichikawa, our "messed up in the mind" hero senses that something is wrong and in an attempt to divert their attention, he throws her bike in the river (pretty weird way to divert their attention but everything worked at last so does it even matter?).
One of Yamada's friend, who saw Ichikawa do this, told Yamada about this. Upon being asked why, he simply says "I stepped on the gas instead of the brake". Yamada bursts out laughing, and says he is funny.
Personal Opinion
I really enjoyed this episode. As I was writing this review, I realized just how much was packed into a single episode. I came to know about its manga and was planning on reading it, but then I heard that the anime was coming so I decided to wait a little longer. Truth be told, I like this anime's first episode more than I did Komi-san. It's my personal opinion, of course. I liked both Ichikawa and Yamada. Both of them were different from your typical school rom-com anime protagonists. The plot is similar to that of a typical rom-com anime, but the characters and their quirks are what makes this anime stand out this season, along with Yamada-kun.
Wait, don't know about Yamada-kun anime? Well, you can check its review by clicking here.
