It is written and illustrated by Masakazu Ishiguro, serialized in Kodansha's Seinen Manga since January 2018. The plot follows two children, Maru and Kiruko on their way to find heaven. Episode Summary

The episode starts with a group of children living in a closed facility.

They were seen giving some kind of test, which were conducted by the robotic teachers. Mimihime, one of the girl living there, is intrigued by what lies beyond the walls, and she tempts Tokio, another girl living there, to go look too. Then we see the main characters of this series, Maru and Kiruko, who are seen looting houses for food and other things. They were wandering the streets of a post-apocalyptic Japan. They found some houses where they find many useful things. One thing that is missing is food. There isn't much food, and the situation is so bad that some are even dying of starvation.

Maru and Kiruko were on search for someplace, called "heaven" which even they don't know about. On their way, they found a group of bandits too, who tried to rob them as well as take advantage of them. However, Kiruko tried to scare them off by showing them a gun, but they didn't get scared. Now, they had no other option than to engage in a fight.

In the end, they managed to show them their place. The bandits took them to their hideout on the gunpoint, where they didn't find anything of importance. But, they were able to charge the battery of their gun, which was about to die.

Back in the closed facility, Tokio isn't able to sleep as she was intrigued by what Mimihime told her about the outside of the wall. She decides to stroll out for a bit. While outside, she encounters the director of the facility. Tokio asks her about the world outside the wall, if there is any.

Back to our main characters. They ends up in an inn, with a suspicious owner. Maru and Kiruko had dinner after taking a bath.

On the dinner table, the owner of the inn talks about the taboo relationship between them, but it later turns out to be a misunderstanding as Maru and Kiruko are not siblings, rather Kiruko was hired as bodyguard for Maru on his journey. The owner informs them about the monster which was lurking outside, that cannot be killed by guns.

Now, the creepiness start. Maru and Kiruko have been drugged by the owner, and they are asleep. In the owner's room, she is shown holding a shotgun, and for some reason, the monster that she talked about earlier shows up in the window. Episode ends here.

Personal Opinion

I genuinely enjoyed the animation and art style. One more thing that I enjoyed was the post-apocalyptical setting, which gave off The Last of Us vibes. We were told nothing about the world setting, except that there was a Collapse, as they called it. We don't even know if the duo is headed for the facility or if they escaped from there. The episode was filled with mysteries. It looked pretty normal, until we were shown that... bird or whatever that was. Overall, I enjoyed this episode and I'm looking forward to more.
